Root Motion Movement Component
A custom movement component that builds dashes and knockbacks from plain numbers and hands them to the character mover — animation stays cosmetic.
A custom movement component that separates motion from animation. Dashes, knockbacks and dodges are built from plain numbers and handed directly to the character mover.
The idea
Root motion in the animation clip is convenient but brittle — change the animation and the gameplay distance changes with it.
What it does
- Builds dash and knockback motion from explicit distance, duration and curve data.
- Hands the result to the movement component, keeping gameplay deterministic.
- Leaves the animation purely cosmetic, so animators can iterate freely.
The result is predictable, tunable movement that survives animation swaps.
